Welcome to CPRS Calgary

The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) is a uniquely Canadian association of public relations professionals. CPRS Calgary, formed in 1958, is the local member society representing some of the brightest and most talented communications professionals in the city.

President's Message

Spring 2008

Happy 50th Anniversary CPRS Calgary!

CPRS Calgary is well into its 50th year, and more than ever we are asking ourselves, where did the time go?

It's hard to believe we're coming up on summer, but the time has been well spent, with four great professional development events so far this year and two highly successful student events.

Rest assured there is more to come, and of course, the host of events planned in celebration of our Society's 50th anniversary. Read more on our special 50th Anniversary page - visit again and again to see what's new.

We are coming up on this year's Annual General Meeting - add June 19th to your calendars and plan to attend. If you are not going to be available and are a voting member, please download and send in a Letter of Proxy as well as a Nomination Form.

At our AGM we'll elect next year's slate of directors, so now's a great time to think about how you'd like to volunteer to help your society deliver terrific programs, professional development and service to its members. There are several board positions available, and all committees are always looking for just a few hours of your time. Feel free to contact me for more details.

The National Society is also busy with commemorative planning in recognition of CPRS' 60th anniversary – celebrating in 2008 as well.

Congratulations to Richard Truscott, APR, our most recent, newly-accredited member. Now's the time to start thinking about your own accreditation if you want to get into the 2008-09 cycle.  Check out the website or check with our Accreditation Chair, Del Simon, to see what you need to do to begin the accreditation process.

Lastly, I want to extend personal thanks to those of you who forwarded the CPRS Calgary information brochures which accompanied the Winter edition of HOTWire. We've had a number of new members join the Society recently upon referral by other members. If you know of a colleague or coworker who would benefit from membership in CPRS Calgary, encourage them to contact membership@cprscalgary.com for details and an application.

Happy Spring!

Canada’s oil sands producers and developers have developed a new website (www.canadaoilsands.ca) with open discussion forums to engage Canadians in a conversation about the development of Canada’s oil sand resources. Do you think this is a positive way to bridge the concerns of stakeholders and the needs of producers?
